Hector Skipworth, 16, will be one of the youngest competitors taking on The Marathon Des Sables on 5 April. a 250 km run over 6 days in the Sahara desert.
Hector’s mother, Harriet, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2013 and came across Overcoming MS, which Hector says: “has really helped her with her diet, fitness and her attitude to living with MS – so much so, that a lot of the time I forget she has MS at all.”
Hector a student at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, has a keen passion for sports and is following in the footsteps of his father, Paul, who is a past fundraiser for OMS through extreme challenges.
“The race is in April when the temperature will often exceed 50 degrees.
It is something I have always wanted to do from a young age and this is the first year I will be allowed to do it, being one of the youngest ever to attempt the Marathon Des Sables.
I have been training in Morocco and also the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh” said Hector.
