Now what's the go with Canola Oil ?

While i'm certainly not looking to use it individually I've long avoided foods that have it nestled into their content.

My question though is - there's a few items that regularly have canola in the content & it's mainly in milk substitutes that I have often avoided but do I really need to ?

Rice milk & Almond milk 90% of the time have canola oil contained in it << and these are generally the best health quality brand --- so I just stick with Soy ---- but do I have to ? ?

Question only comes because after long avoiding Almond & Rice Milk and forgetting the reason I have avoided them - I ordered more today and then only realised the canola content on reading the packaging.
Hi Tango,

The profiles of Canola, Olive, Sunflower and Flax oils here (taken from the link shown below):

Cooking Oil SFA (%) MUFA (%) PUFA (%) ω-6 (%) ω-3 (%) ω-9 (%) ω-6:3 Ratio Smoke Point

Canola oil 7.4 63.3 28.1 19.0 9.1 61.7 2.1 : 1 400°F (204°C)
Flaxseed oil 9.4 20.2 66.0 12.7 53.3 20.2 0.2 : 1 225°F (107°C)
Olive oil 13.8 73.0 10.5 9.8 0.8 71.3 12.8 : 1 375°F (191°C)
Sunflower oil 13.0 46.2 36.4 35.3 0.9 4 6.0 39.4 : 1 440°F (227°C)

The processing method for all of the oils should be cold pressed, ie, Extra Virgin, the first cold pressing. Other methods used with many oils are quite undesirable: bleached, refined, deodorised.

Notice the difference in Omega6 content, particularly the 6:3 ratio. And the smoke point. And the sat fat (SFA)

I would overlook a minuscule addition of any of these oils in a packaged product.

You can get Almond milk in Australia with a small amount of Sunflower oil added, in Woolworths/Safeway.
Cheers,

Sue

Whoops! It appears the chart I have cut and posted has not formatted correctly. I will try again here, but if it doesn't work, you can visit the website.

The chart has shown the percentage of all the nutritional contents of cooking oil. It's really helpful information to choose the right cooking oil to cook food regularly. Thanks Susan.
