I've been on the OMS diet for almost two years and recently had some blood work done. Normal testosterone levels in males range from 300 ng/dl to 1050 ng/dl. I'm at only 170, which is odd for a 38-year-old male.

I did a little research online and discovered that testosterone is produced out of cholesterol. When looking for ways to increase my testosterone naturally, almost every resource recommends increasing my cholesterol intake through eating eggs, grass fed beef, coconut, and avocado.

Obviously, those are not OMS approved foods. I don't want to take testosterone replacement therapy since there can be side effects. But I can't see myself getting off the diet either.

Has anyone encountered the same problem? Any recommendations?
Hi,
Dr. Greger might be a little biased, but this video shows animal protein (including fish) suppresses testosterone. Plant based diet the opposite.

Steroids can suppress testosterone. Have you taken any for recent relapses?

Research Tulsi/Holy Basil. It is an Ayurvedic herb purported to balance testosterone. It is tasty as a tea.

No. I haven't been taking steroids. Thanks for the suggestion about Tulsi/Holy Basil. I'll check it out.
A major bonus alert (and the reason I take Tulsi): the oleanolic and ursolic acids in Tulsi/Holy Basil exert very positive benefits on suppressing inflammatory responses in mouse EAE.

This is really interesting - thanks for posting Astrid. Have you noticed a positive effect from taking Tuls/holy basil? Do you think that olives would have a similar effect?

There was a discussion about testesterone on the forum last year:

Might be worth a look if you have not already come across it.

@Astrid
Many thanks for the Tulsa / Holy Basil suggestion, and all the brilliantly helpful links. Ordered some tea on Amazon Prime straight away and should be drinking it by this time tomorrow!

The OMS site & forum are brilliant! Thanks, everyone! :D
Jette - I have done the same - am looking forward to my brew. Thanks again Astrid.

My pleasure. I am feeling really really well, better than I have in years. It is hard to know what exactly accounts for what part of my recovery, but I am throwing everything and the kitchen sink (strict adherence to diet, supplementation, water running, fresh pressed juicing and smoothies, etc.) at this thing so...

The Tulsi tastes so good. I combine it with English Breakfast, or green tea, or I drink it straight. Sometimes I brew it straight and refrigerate it overnight, and then add it as the liquid component of my smoothies. I was drinking it before I knew anything about its actions in MS. One day I looked it up and was delighted it has been studied and researchers have concluded it is helpful.

In health,
Astrid

Are you downing lots of Flaxseed oil? I find that lowers my testosterone levels. Great for ms symptoms not so good for your man hood.
