If there is any reason that's keeping you from doing meditation:

I can't sit still
I feel silly
I'm not spiritual "like that"
I can't sit there and say "Om"
I'm doing the diet, isn't that enough?

Just forget it and give it a try. The EASYIEST way is with guided meditations using your mp3 player. I used Jon Kabat-Zinn's meditation for pain relief (you can substitute mental pain or numbness for physical pain if necessary).

What I get out of it: A calm and clarity I never felt before. It's not as if it just tunes down the noise, but it's as if the other parts of me are now louder. I can hear myself think. My anxiety is manageable.

My therapist noticed a big difference in just a month. I do the tapes while riding to work on the bus as well as during my workouts.

Give it a try, you will understand why people go on about it. You may get so much out of it that you consider it the most positive thing you ever got out of this disease.

I second you there Alex. I'm a lot more chilled out and it's years since I slept this well. It takes a while to get into though so don't give it up after week having not found enlightenment. It's really not about that.
