Hi again.
Well I haven't had a chance to try any of your suggestions yet, but I did try using olive oil and surprisingly it wasn't too bad and that's from someone who does not eat olives (I can't stand the taste.) In fact it was a bit tricky drizzling it onto the bread so I chilled it and was able to spead it on evenly like butter. Stll not happy with the taste though, but I'm sure I will get used to it. I added some quality peanut paste and that helped.

We have been using Cobram Estate lemon oil, extra virgin olive oil, avail at Coles Supermarkets and have found it to go well with many things we have, you don't need much, pour onto a teaspoon, and then a few scattered drops. $5.00 for 250 ml and nice tasting.
When not in Italy, do as the Italians do. I vote for olive oil with bread. Even here in Minnesota, we are fond of dipping bread in extra virgin olive oil!
