Has anyone found an alternative to milk rather than soy or rice milk? Something that tastes more like milk?
The only thing that tastes like milk is milk!

But I drink oat milk now and have developed a taste for it. If ever someone gives me cow's milk by accident I cannot drink it anymore, I find the taste really repellant - mind you it has taken 3 years for me to get here ;)
I use unsweetened almond milk. If I want to sweeten it up a little, I use some honey.
what sort of milk do people use in their baking?

I use soy or rice milk in my baking. Mainly because they are the most readily available and affordable in my local supermarket (I'm in NZ). The rice milk is quite brown so makes the baking darker (not an issue if there is cocoa powder).


I use Almond milk in my cereal (hot and cold), because I'm concerned about consuming way too much soy. For Taste, I prefer Soymilk in my coffee, but can use almond milk. So I end up with almond milk at home and soymilk at starbucks.

For cooking, I always use Soymilk. It seems to have the most genuine milk-like properties.

I've tried everything and really the only thing that works is leaving it out entirely so you can lose the taste for it. Hard to believe but it does happen! I"d probably still love a big scoop of ice cream but at least I don't crave milk products anymore. The hardest part about this diet has been dropping dairy (probably the reason I'm in this mess to begin with)! Nothing tastes the same as milk. I have developed a taste for coffee, tea, oatmeal, etc. made without milk.
Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can recommend a soy or rice milk that hasn't got vegetable oil/canola oil/sunflower oil listed in it's ingredients. All the brands I've come across in the supermarket (Melbourne, AUS) have some sort of oil listed.

I looked at the Silk brand in the US last time I was there and saw that it had flax oil listed instead, don't know if you can get that?

I am in NZ and get the same brands you do so I try not to have much of the stuff which is not too hard as I don't really like it much! I drink black coffee, herbal tea and soak oats in water or juice with dried fruit for a couple of hours or overnight which makes a really creamy muesli.

Thanks Wendy. I really only use it as a substitute in recipes eg. white sauce for lasagne. I'd be interested in hearing some more feedback from others. By the way are you the Wendy with the choc cake recipe? Have tried it and it's a delicious treat!
