hello everyone,

i have tested vitamin D the first time 1 1/2 ago before i was diagnosed with MS. it was 13 ng/ml then. shocking!
this year I had 57 ng/ml and i've been taking 5000iu then already so i think it's not getting me high enough.
first of all i don't understand the conversion and if i take one dose of 50 000IU how do i proceed? 5000IU a day?

any help is appreciated!!!
Thank you!

Go to the Sunlight and Vitamin D page of the website here: http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Recovery-Program/Sunlight-and-Vitamin-D/ and then scroll down to the supplements section. You can also go to the FAQs, Sunlight and Vitamin D, here: http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Resources/FAQs/. In both sections you will read how to calculate mega doses.

hi Wendy,

so my 57ng/ml are pretty ok then. i'll keep on taking my 5000IUs daily as we don't have enough sun here and will check at the end of winter again.

Thank you so much!

Still a bit on the low side - 57 ng/ml is 142.5 nmol/L.

The recommendation from one of those links Lisa suggested is:
" keep vitamin D levels optimal at above150nmol/L (60ng/mL for those in the US). Regarding vitamin D and multiple sclerosis, research suggests strongly that high-normal levels are required, so some people with MS aim even higher, perhaps at 200nmol/L."

My levels are around 210 nmol/L and I feel great.

We have expanded the Vitamin D Supplements paragraphs in Sunlight and Vitamin D, under Recovery Program: http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Recovery-Program/Sunlight-and-Vitamin-D/
to more fully cover the conversions between nmol/L and ng/mL
