I am trying to purchase vitamin D3 5000IU in New Zealand but am not having much luck.Any help much appreciated.James
Don't think you will get it. Most likely you will have to buy from iherb like I do. Each time there is a risk customs will confiscate it as there is a limit on the dose. Anyone would think it was cocaine!

Hi James

I recently had an issue with my iHerb Vitamin D orders here in New Zealand. I had been purchasing 5,000 IU Solgar Vitamin D3 capsules from iHerb for the past year, however Medsafe just seized my last order at the border.

I was able to convince my GP to sign the release form, however I suspect ordering more will be a problem moving forward. It appears that New Zealand regulations consider anything over 1,000 IU as medicine, not a supplement. Crazy in my opinion, and i think the OMS community in NZ needs to band together to push through a change to this antiquated legislation.

Whats even more bizarre, is that in the Southern District Health Board region (SDHB) which is Otago & Southland, the SDHB do not fund Vitamin D blood tests. The only DHB in NZ who doesn't, which is ironic given the south of the South Island presents the highest risk of Vitamin D deficient to the population.

Personally I am now struggling with getting a GP so sign off on these 'high doses', and my post winter Vitamin D blood serum level had dropped below 150 nmol/L despite taking a 10,000 IU daily maintenance dose over the past year.

Any advice your or anyone else in the OMS community had on getting around this issue in NZ would be much appreciated.

A: How to get 5,000 IU Vitamin D3 supplements in NZ, and
B: How to get a megadose prescribed to raise blood serum levels when needed.

cheers

I now get my D3 though a prescription from my doctor.
I’m in New Zealand ( Wairarapa ).
They are 50 000iu per capsule.
I take I capsule every 5 days.
It’s saved me so much money.

It took me a while but I found a doctor who prescribed me 50 000iu capsules at a prescription of I every 5 days.
It was not my g.p
I see a psychiatrist and she prescribed them.
Some neurologists prescribe them also.
Keep trying, the money you will save is worth it.
Also taking a mega dose is so much easier this way.

There are doctors out there who are up to date enough to know vitamin D3 helps M.S
I get 10,000iu through iherb and have had maybe 1 in 10 orders stopped by customs. It is a risk but i am prepared to lose the odd one. Customs randomly check so most likely it will get through.

I also het the 50,000 from doc as a back up and stash them. I found that 1x week doses were not as effective as daily so that is why i get iherb ones.

In Auckland we have been having to pay for our D tests for years now and it is surprising Southland DHB has only just caught up.
