Happy new year ladies and gents,

I am very excited and a little scared to report that tomorrow morning I will roll down my driveway on a 16klm bike ride to work. This is the start of my training to complete a 50klm ride in Melbourne in March to raise money for the MS society.

I will definitely take it easy and plan to do the ride once this week, then twice next week, then three times the following week. Then I will try to complete a return journey on the same day and build up.

The research showing that the OMS program will work is overwhelming so now I am taking this belief to the next level and gambling that after 6 months on the diet I will be well enough to complete the challenge.

I did question this decision recently as over Christmas for 2 solid weeks while away on holiday I limped and was badly fatigued. But I have been walking well again since last Thursday and am feeling ok so fingers crossed.

Wishing everyone the best of health.
Blessings
Alex

All the best! I *should* dust off my bike too. Might try this weekend seeing you've inspired me.
Update: I made it to work alive and felt so incredibly grateful. I couldn't have imagined doing this back in May when I had to use a four wheel walker. My legs are a little tired this afternoon but not too bad.

I am a novice bike rider but the people around me are so supportive. Luckily for me someone told me about the bike track near my house that I didn't know existed, and then someone else told me about wearing some padding in my pants. I tell you you riding with a pillow down your pants may look funny but the feeling is too good to be true.

Entering an event is very motivating, thats for sure. We had the Sydney to the Gong ride last November . Was a Volunteer route marshal at Botany bay near the start, and joined the ride for last part, Best part is the bike track near the beaches, have been on that path many times. You can see a part of the ride. It is very popular, and they have had to limit the numbers to 10,000 riders.

not sure if that link is ok, other way is to go to you tube and type gong ride, and is the MS Australia Sydney to the Gong ride 2011. there are also some private video.
It shows the Lidcome MS centre, where we exercise in the gym. It used to be the Hospital where my wife worked in the lab testing B12 and Folate.

Go for it! :)

I know what you mean! 2 years ago I didn't have the energy or the confidence to do very much at all. It's a very different story after being on this diet for a while. On Christmas morning, my husband and I paddled down a fantastic stretch of white water close to where we live, in an inflatable kayak accompanied by 20 or so experienced white water paddlers. It was one of those good be be alive days, the weather and water conditions were absolutely perfect. I had to be helped 50 metres down a fairly steep path to a rocky beach on the river, but I didn't fall over once or into the river, or out of the kayak ;-) and I had an absolute blast!

It's the third time since I started this diet that I have been in a kayak, bless you George!
