Bypassing the emergency department after 25 years

The University of Western Australia farewells an exceptional medico

He loves music and keeping fit, was the first Chair in Emergency Medicine in Australasia, follows a vegan and fish diet, licked into shape an ailing emergency department in a major hospital, has published numerous clinical studies and several books, was a WA finalist for Australian of the Year in 2008 and has kept multiple sclerosis at bay for years.

He is Winthrop Professor George Jelinek, who retired in mid- April as Professor of Emergency Medicine at UWA and Head of Emergency Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
