My mum and I wanted to try and raise some money for Overcoming MS as it is an organisation that seeks to find alternative ways of overcoming MS as opposed to medication.

As my mum has MS and is a Pilates teacher we decided to run three special festive Pilates sessions. These sessions would be lit by candle light, hence the name, and would be accompanied by Christmas music.

We started by sending out an emails informing all those enlisted already in classes of the dates of the sessions. I made a poster which was sent and put up outside the studio. I then attended the classes leading up to the final week to collect money from those wishing to attend.

Each person donated 10€ and the studio was kindly given to us for free which meant that 100% of the money raised went to OMS. As well as this some people also put money into the collection box and some people donated even though they could not make the sessions. We had to arrive early to the sessions in order to set up the mats, lights, music, and candles.

Despite it being the end of the year and the foul weather, both the Monday and the Thursday session were completely full.

The sessions were an hour long and were designed to be calm and enjoyable. Many people said how relaxing and beautiful it was.

The music was appropriately calm but also with a Christmas theme (such as Enya). It took quite a bit of effort but it was well worth it and an excellent way to end the term and start the holidays.
