The Overcoming MS book written by Professor Jelinek is a brilliant read crammed with valuable information about lifestyle and MS. Week 1, OMS Program Recap, pages 43 - 68 

You will read about the background of preventative medicine and chronic western disease and some of the studies validating the OMS program including STOP MS and HOLISM from the NEU.

Week 2, Eating well

This is one of the longer chapters of the book, so it could be worth breaking up into parts or focussing on the areas you have questions about (listed below). The scientific evidence and studies summary is towards the start of the chapter, followed by specific elements and then ending with practical advice, which is what we have suggested reading.

Week 4, Exercise and vitamin D, pages 148 - 215

Two chapters, and two steps of the recovery program are covered in the reading this week. Exercise is vital for You can read about how vitamin D effects developing MS in the general population and its importance in prevention in family members. Benefits to people with MS include boosting the immune system, lessening the severity and frequency of MS symptoms, reducing relapse rates and lengthening the time it takes to progress from relapsing-remitting MS to secondary-progressive MS.

The final week of refresh is about realistic hope for the future. There are two parts of this - encouraging lifestyle changes in family members to reduce their risk, and also encorporating the elements of the OMS into your day to day life. 

The final chapter is a must-read, worth reading the whole chapter, and a great end to Refresh with OMS.
