New UK Pregnancy Guidelines Published

January 16, 2019

pregnancyDetailed new UK guidelines for pregnancy care in multiple sclerosis, drawn up by a panel of experts, have been published this week.

The guidelines were published in the journal Practical Neurology, in an article titled “UK consensus on pregnancy in multiple sclerosis: ‘Association of British Neurologists’ guidelines.”

They cover pre-pregnancy counselling (for men and women), management during pregnancy, delivery and anesthetic options, postpartum advice and specific advice regarding disease-modifying drugs (DMDs).

The proposed guidelines have been endorsed by the Association of British Neurologists, and have been reviewed by a panel of MS specialist nurses, neurologists, obstetricians, midwives, and MS patients.

Limited evidence is available so more studies are needed.
