OMS Q&A With Dr Jonathan White

We recently asked you to submit questions about MS and the OMS Recovery Program on Facebook for Dr Jonathan White to answer.

Jonathan himself was diagnosed with RRMS in October 2015, and has been following the OMS Recovery Program ever since. He is a regular fundraiser for OMS, having taken part in 10 km and half-marathon runs.

    I have been guided by George since 2001 and have reached a stage of revisiting the principles I learned back then. I am impressed with all the new evidence confirming a program that has kept me well for so long! And all the new ideas to go on with. Thanks OMS.org!

    • Hi Rose,

      Flaxseed oil is better. According to the findings of the HOLISM study, people regularly taking flaxseed oil have a 60% lower relapse rate. However, there is no major change in relapse rate for those who regularly use fish oil.

      The findings of this HOLISM study were reinforced by research from just over a year ago, which also showed a positive effect for flaxseed oil on relapse rates, whilst finding minimal effect for fish oil on relapse rates.

    Thank you for answering my previous questions
    Really appreciate it
    I would like to know if 2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil per day is sufficient or do I need more
    Also I would like to know what I can do for improving foot drop so that it does not drag when the leg gets tired

    • Hi Rose,

      2 tablespoons (20 to 40ml) of flaxseed oil is sufficient.

      With regards to your foot drop, you should hopefully see improvements in the long-term by following the OMS Recovery Program. However, in the short term we recommend that you see your doctor as they’ll be able to help and advise you.
