Completing 600 miles

After 10 challenging days, Jonny and Stuart successfully completed their cycle and arrived at the Brighton and Hove Football Club AMEX stadium to a crowd of supporters on Saturday 18th of May.

Along the way, they overcome many challenges such as long uphill cycles, emergency bike repairs, and poor-quality cycle paths. This cycle would be tough for anyone, but especially with the unpredictability of a condition like MS, Jonny had to be very careful about conserving his energy and resting as much as possible.

To mark the final stretch of the cycle, Overcoming MS Trustee and Brighton chairman, Tony Bloom joined them for the last 16 miles.

You can read all about it on the Brighton and Hove Albion website here.

The challenge

In just ten days, Jonny cycled from his hometown, Bushmills Northern Ireland, to the home of his beloved football club, Brighton and Hove Albion, the AMEX.

Jonny and his cousin Stuart cycled the whole way together. They set off on Thursday 9th May stopping along the way in Scotland and throughout England before arriving in Brighton on Saturday 18th May.

They were joined for the last leg of the journey by Overcoming MS Trustee, Tony Bloom before presenting Overcoming MS charity President and Founder, Linda Bloom a bottle of Bushmills Whiskey.

“I want to prove to myself and our community that a completely average 40-year-old, living with MS for the best part of a decade, can challenge himself physically and mentally, and achieve something just a little bit special.”

How to support Jonny

Jonny was diagnosed with MS 9 years ago this year. Shortly after he discovered the Overcoming MS Program.

“It’s hard to put into words what Overcoming MS means to me. In the darkest of times, it was a beacon of real hope and the path for me to follow. George Jelinek’s work showed me that I had a choice, to make a very real difference in how this condition would affect me, and give the very best odds of living a full and healthy life with MS.”

Jonny is aiming to raise £15,000 for the Overcoming MS charity so that we can reach more people with MS and give them hope that living well with MS is possible!

The route

Jonny started his cycle from Bushmills to Larne in Northern Ireland, covering 55 miles on the bike before crossing the Irish Sea. He then covered the remaining 545 miles across Great Britain, finishing in Brighton. See his route below!
