Liz Waters, Community Engagement Programme Manager, shared her thoughts on the day: “Our Pop-Up tour has continued to provide opportunities to connect, share stories and celebrate the Overcoming MS community and Program. Edinburgh was certainly no exception with a series of inspiring talks which gave background to the charity, to Circles (our groups), to individual journeys and shared the broader benefits of lifestyle medicine.

It was a wonderful day shared with Circle members, Ambassadors, Facilitators, our charity President  and members of Overcoming MS staff. We are very much looking forward to the next stage on our journey around the UK”.

Fantastic guest speakers at Edinburgh’s pop-up event:

We heard from three brilliant guest speakers with different perspectives on the Overcoming MS Program, as well as the Charity President and founder, Linda Bloom.

  • Overcoming MS Ambassador of the Scotland – East Circle, Martine McNee gave an inspiring talk on her journey from diagnosis to present day.

  • Senior Overcoming MS Facilitator, Dr Jonathan White, gave a fantastic presentation on the Program, the evidence behind it, as well as talking about the Charity itself.

  • We also heard from Dr Fraser Quin, Executive Director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM), who shared the importance of lifestyle changes for people living with MS and other chronic conditions. Find out more about the BSLM here. Linda Bloom closed the event and shared her personal story from being diagnosed with MS to establishing the Charity and creating our Circle support groups.

More Circles meet-ups and new members

The Pop-up event has led to more Circles meet-ups taking place in-person. One attendee said: “The Pop-Up event in Edinburgh was brilliant and it was lovely to meet people from other Circles. We have even decided to join together for some in-person events as a result of the Pop-Up. Hearing from Health Care Professionals about the latest findings and also listening to Linda Bloom’s inspiring story was amazing! I’ve even got a few more additions to my Circle which is amazing!”
