“No one changes unless they want to. Not if you beg them. Not if you shame them. Not if you use reason, emotion, or tough love. There’s only one thing that makes someone change: their own realization that they need to do it. And there’s only one time when it will happen: when they’re ready” Lori Deschene

I remember when I was first diagnosed with MS in 2007 and was given the book Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis by George Jelinek, read the first eight pages and put it in the top drawer of my bedside table where it remained for eight years.
There were other books that were sent my way. Other words of advice and suggestions. I don’t even think I have read them still. I wasn’t ready.
It wasn’t until I was part of a venous investigation trial via CCSVI Australia that I went to the gym again.
I undertook a 12 week transformation challenge; lost weight, got fit again and realized I could change.
I then started a personal development business that worked on my mindset, big time. It opened up my mind and empowered me to realise my own potential and my own ability to be the change. This guided me to fall in love with yoga. I also then tried quitting sugar and including more whole foods in my diet.
One day, I spoke to someone who planted the OMS seed again and so, eight years on, I read the book and attended an OMS retreat.
In addition to the program, I have explored alternative therapies through other contacts and friends, including oxidative stress and Nrf2 activation in a natural way.
I also completed a 28 day cleanse which was a real eye opener for feeling my body shift gears and have decided to eliminate a few other foods like eggs and corn products (gluten is still difficult for me to let go of).
Last but not least, I have ventured into Usui Reiki Level One, a system of Natural Healing that works with energy. This has been a calling of mine and feels like home for me.
To work with the energy and guidance, bringing in all the knowledge from everything else I have experienced with the personal development, the food healing, the lifestyle healing. I’m guided with animal messages and the chakras.
Such a journey, that soul and spirit side of healing and one I part of the OMS retreat that was so very powerful. What I am getting at here is that all this journey I’ve been on and continue to go on was because I wanted to heal my body, to live well.
First MS forced unwanted symptoms and life changes on me but I realised I needed to find a better way of living with this diagnosis. Me, myself and I.
I can share my story and I make suggestions to those I meet along the way. I can want you to make changes like I have because I know it helps.
However, just like that OMS book that was gifted to me in 2007, until you want to, you have the free will to place it in your top drawer, just like I did for eight years.
When your why, your want and your need is strong enough – it will happen. You too will embark on a healing journey of your own decision.
You’ve got this
