Lentil Burgers

Tasty meat-free burgers full of protein, serve with salad or potatoes.

Ingredients List

Serves 5
  • 1 cup lentils red or brown, rinsed
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic sliced
  • .5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 dash extra virgin olive oil (for frying)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • .5 tsp pepper
  • .5 tsp cumin
  • .25 tsp cayenne pepper or chilli or curry or whatever you desire

Instructions

  1. Slice onion and garlic.
  2. Brown in non stick pan with a little bit of water and lime juice.
  3. Toast buns until brown.
  4. Rinse lentils and cook for 20 or so minutes.
  5. Tear up toasted buns, put into food processor and chop into crumbs.
  6. When onions are soft and starting to release their scent, add spices and mix well.
  7. Remove water from lentils. Add lentils & onions to food processor and mix until a ball forms.
  8. Since mixture is still very hot, use a scoop to remove portions out and form into patties (burns your hands otherwise!)
  9. Cook in mild heat pan.
  10. Flip after patties turn brown.
  11. Serve with tomato, avocado, lettuce, cucumber, roast capsicum, roast zucchini, roast eggplant on a spelt sesame seed bun!
  12. Top with your choice of lettuce, tomato, avocado, pea shoots, roast capsicum (pepper), roast eggplant, mustard, sweet chilli or tomato sauce, etc.
